My Early Christmas Present

I told Skyler there were only two things I wanted this year:

1.  New mop
2.  New dishes

Exciting, right?  For me, yes.  πŸ™‚

1. Our house is almost all laminate wood floors and tile floors, so I mop a lot.  Our little creeky microfiber mop works great at picking up dirt and gunk, but I wanted something a little more sturdy.
I picked this:

And I’m really hoping it’s under my tree this year! πŸ™‚
2.  Dishes.  I have never had my own set.  I inherited a nice hand me down set from my grandma when I first moved out when I was 18.  And I still have them.  After 7 years of my own use (and they were made in 1975!), plus prior years of use, the plates were looking pretty scratched up.
I had my eyes set on this set:

(See, I even “pinned” them! )

They are from Kohl’s (online only) and I pretty much fell in love at first sight.  They were definitely on the higher end of what I would want to spend for a 16 piece set (knowing I would want enough for 12 people, so would have to get 3 sets) at $79.99.  So, I pinned them so I wouldn’t lose track of them and kept on hunting for others.

After about three months of sort-of looking…I couldn’t get these Kohl’s plates out of my head!  I loved them and nothing else was even comparable in my eyes.  πŸ™‚  So…after Black Friday shopping, I had some Kohl’s cash to spend, plus a 20% discount, plus they were on sale for $74, so all together I paid $145 for 3 sets (not too bad!).

They arrived last week.  And I left them in their boxes by the front door for about 3 days.

I felt a little guilty for buying my own Christmas present…and I had doubts that they were even worth the money.  I thought, “Watch, they’ll probably scratch just as bad as my other plates…” yadda yadda.

Yesterday, I finally decided to open the boxes…and was pleasantly surprised with this:

They’re “eco-friendly” dishes and partly made of recycled materials, which made the hippy in me happy. πŸ™‚  (However, I did find it interesting that these environment friendly boxes are surrounded by packaging peanuts…Ironic?)

I’m not really sure why they didn’t advertise online for all the things it says on the box!  Stronger than bone china, thinner than porcelain, 30% recycled materials, chip resistant, dishwasher safe, oven safe, microwave safe, and withstands sudden temp changes.  To me, those are awesome selling points, and made my guilt over this purchase completely fade away.  I am pleased as can be with my purchase! πŸ™‚

Don’t they look pretty in my cupboard?! πŸ˜‰

Bonus:

The boy had hours of fun playing in the box of packing peanuts. πŸ™‚

Merry early Christmas to me!
Love, K
